Wahoo’s rolling out new software features today for their ELEMNT ROAM V2 and BOLT V2 bike computers allowing you to control the music playing on your phone, manage connected ANT+ bike lights, training plan integrations with a new API, and control of your GoPro camera.
First up there’s music control allowing you to control the music playing on your connected smartphone where you can play, pause, skip tracks, and even adjust volume with a new, dedicated music controls data page. If you’d prefer to not have the additional page in your stack, worry not, you can toggle it off if you’d like within the settings on the app.
There’s also Smart Light Control where you can manage your connected ANT+ smart bike lights enabling you to turn them on or off as well as adjusting modes.
On the training side of things, they’re also announcing a new training plan API where 3rd party training platforms can send workouts to your ELEMNT from the likes of FinalSurge, Nolio, Humango, and Join. This is in addition to the already-existing Training Peaks and Wahoo SYSTM integration.
Most excitingly, Wahoo’s announcing GoPro control from your ELEMNT making for a convenient way to start and stop recording, take photos, change modes, and see stats from your GoPro like recording time and battery life remaining – all from the cockpit of your bike. I could see this feature being incredibly useful if you have your GoPro mounted behind your saddle or anywhere else on your bike for that matter.
While the other features are all available today, GoPro control is coming in a future update. No word on timing but stay tuned to one of my social channels for the announcement of the official roll-out.
