Strava Live Segements Go Virtual – Rouvy integrates with Strava to bring the Live Segment experience indoors

Strava Live Segments have brought a “racing” experience to your outdoor activities where you can compete against other athletes on different segments. Previously, this feature was only available with some higher end bike computers and wearables while riding outdoors.

Today that changes with Rouvy integrating with Strava to bring the Strava Live Segment experience indoors in the Rouvy indoor cycling training app.

Rouvy is all about the ride experience focusing on realistic simulation with real videos of real routes around the world. It’s all about being immersed in a ride.

To bring even more realism to the experience, you now have the ability to race segments within some of their routes. Right now, the live segment experience is rolling out on routes on La Vuelta roads in Rouvy’s Time Trial mode. Live segments in their “Just Ride” experience rolls out a bit later down the road. You can see the current list of Strava Live segments available at launch here: https://rouvy.com/routes/strava-live-segments

Just like the outdoor Strava Live segment experience, you’ll get a little bit of notice before a live segment where it will say you’re approaching a segment.

Once you start the segment, you’ll be able to see your position in relation to the KOM of the segment as well as your own PR. What brings this to another level though is that they visualize the KOM and your PR with avatars that you can hopefully can see just in front of you, or better yet, not being able to see them behind you.

This feature, just like outdoor Strava Live Segments, is only available for Strava subscribers. Strava has a 60-day free trial available and Rouvy also has a 14-day free trial.

With indoor training season right around the corner for those of us in the northern hemisphere, this should add just another way of making the indoor riding experience more fun and engaging.

I’ve only had a limited time with the experience so far and it works great and I’ll have a follow-up video that I’ll post here once I’ve had a bit more time with it.
